Street-number rule test list
Require a street number at Shopify checkout: test house-name and no-number addresses first
Direct answer. Shopify's built-in checkout rules can't require a street or house number, so you need a checkout-validation app for it. Free on PO Box Blocker — AddressFence blocks PO Boxes and parcel lockers on the shipping address at checkout, plus a small set of ZIP rules. The street-number check and billing-address rules are on a paid plan. Test any address in the simulator before publishing, with one-click rollback. Before you publish, test UK house-name addresses: Royal Mail says some homes use a name instead of a number.

Why a number rule needs a test list
Royal Mail’s Postcode Finder help says some homes or business addresses use a name instead of a street number, and that you can use either to address mail.

| High Street | Block if you require a number |
| Flat B | Your call: a unit with no building number |
| 1-2-3 Shibuya | Your call: a hyphenated number written first |
| Shibuya 1-2-3 | Your call: a hyphenated number written after the district |
Add real examples from your own order history, including addresses a customer had to retype.
Install AddressFence, then run the house-name test list
Run it
- Write the expected result for each line before you test.
- Run every line through the simulator and mark any mismatch.
- Decide where a name-only address should pass, and adjust the rule or leave that case to manual review.
- Test again, then publish.
- Place one test order with a numbered address and one with a house name, and roll the rule back with one click if a real customer is stopped.
What this page is not
- Not a list of every pattern AddressFence matches; use the simulator for that.
- Not a check that an address exists or is deliverable.
- Not carrier advice.
