Customer service staff
Leave Companies off the CSR role — there is no hide-the-link setting
Direct answer. Shopify does not document a control that only hides the Companies admin link. Access is a role permission. Store permissions lists Companies separately from Customers: View companies; Create and edit companies; Assign other users to company locations; Delete companies; and related store-credit rows. Customer service staff who should not open B2B companies need those Companies permissions left off their role, while Customers and Orders can stay on. Shopify also states that staff who had Customers permissions before 31 January 2024 were automatically granted Companies permissions, so older roles may still have them. Custom roles are available on some plans. Confirm the live Help Center page. This page is not legal advice.
Staff Access Audit Guard (Shopify App Store · Write a review) reviews installed-app access, granted scopes, staff access records, and ownership evidence without reading customer or order data. It tracks staff and collaborator access with 30/90-day review reminders. It does not edit roles, hide admin links, or revoke users. This page is the Companies permission split for customer service — not a B2B catalog or purchase-order rule.

What native Shopify can and cannot do
Native Shopify can create or edit a user role under Settings > Users > Roles and leave the Companies section unticked. Managing roles documents adding a role, selecting permissions, and assigning it. Keep Customers and Orders if the CSR still needs those screens. After you save, have a CSR log in and confirm what they can open. Shopify’s B2B sales-staff article describes the opposite job — granting Companies permissions to sales staff — on Orders, data, and admin access for B2B sales staff.
Native Shopify cannot hide the Companies menu item while still granting View companies. Restrict permissions to assigned company locations is a different control: it filters Orders, Draft orders, Customers, and Companies to assigned locations; it does not remove Companies for a customer-service role. Help Center does not document that adding a company on a D2C store converts the store or breaks a subscription app; test that question with the subscription app’s own support, not this page.
Checklist: customer service without B2B Companies
- Open Settings > Users > Roles and the CSR role (or add a custom role on plans that include one).
- Under Companies, leave View companies, Create and edit companies, and Delete companies off if they should not see or change companies.
- Re-check older roles created before 31 January 2024; Shopify auto-granted Companies with Customers then.
- Keep the Customers and Orders permissions the desk actually uses.
- Save, then ask a CSR to log in and confirm they cannot open Companies.
What this page is not
- Not legal advice, a security attestation, or a subscription-app compatibility statement.
- Not a way to hide Companies from B2B customers on the storefront. That is a different surface from staff roles.
- Not a purchase-order checkout rule. That job is require a PO number on B2B checkout.

Not legal advice. Confirm the live Store permissions article before you treat a role as hiding Companies. The app scores and flags access you already granted; it does not edit roles.
