Order review threshold on B2B checkout
Holding oversized B2B orders for approval is not a required PO and not Net Terms
B2B PO Guard — Require PO (App Store title B2B PO Guard — Require PO) (Shopify App Store) validates PO numbers, deposits, Net terms, order review, and D2C no-op behavior for Shopify native B2B checkout workflows. It routes orders above a threshold for manual review and approval, with approver email alerts, and works alongside native Net Terms. D2C and no-company checkouts stay untouched. Free includes one live PO rule with a monthly order cap. Deposit guardrails and review routing are paid features.
Related: PO Box Blocker — AddressFence — Free blocks PO Boxes and parcel lockers on the shipping address at checkout, plus a small set of ZIP rules. Street-number checks and billing-address rules are on a paid plan.
Free check first: PO number format tester runs in your browser and sends nothing. Test prefix, length, characters, regex and duplicates on sample PO numbers.
Four checkout jobs: Net Terms, a required PO, a deposit %, and order review
A hold on an oversized company order is its own checkout control. Keep it next to Net Terms, a required PO string, and a deposit % — do not treat those four jobs as one toggle.
| Job | What it controls | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Net Terms | When the company pays. Native company payment terms cover net periods, due on fulfillment, and related due dates on the location or a draft order. | Does not hold an oversized cart for approval. Does not validate a PO string. |
| Required PO string | Format, prefix, regex, length, and uniqueness so the PO box is not junk. Sibling guide: require a PO number on B2B checkout. | Does not set when the invoice is due. Does not route the order for review. |
| Deposit % | Money due now vs later. Listing guardrails are 1–99% per B2B order. Sibling: deposit percentage at checkout. | Does not become Net Terms. Does not replace a review hold. |
| Order review (this page) | Route orders above a threshold for manual review and approval, with approver email alerts. The hold is the threshold you publish. It does not name an org-chart approver. | Does not replace Net Terms, a required PO, or a deposit %. Does not underwrite credit. |
These controls can sit together on company checkout. A review threshold still leaves Net Terms, PO validation, and deposit guardrails as separate jobs.

Native path: payment terms, draft-order invoices, and all-orders draft review
Use native company payment terms when the job is when that location pays. Shopify Help documents net periods and related due dates on the company location and on draft orders. See Setting up payment terms in B2B.
For phone, email, or trade-show capture, Help documents draft orders assigned to a company location, including sending an invoice. See Creating B2B orders using draft orders and the B2B checkout, orders, and draft orders overview.
For a location-wide hold, Help documents Submit all orders as drafts for review on the company location. Every order from that location is saved as a draft. The buyer sees a submit-for-approval path at checkout. Staff then create the order or send an invoice. See Managing checkout settings in B2B.
That native setting is all orders from the location. The job on this page is a threshold: route oversized company orders for manual review and approval, and let smaller company orders continue. Help also notes a Payment Customization Function when only some carts should become drafts (for example by order value). That is a developer function path, not a no-code approval desk.

App path: set the review threshold on company checkout
The listing job on this page is to route orders above a threshold for manual review and approval on company checkout, with approver email alerts — alongside native Net Terms.
- Open the B2B PO Guard — Require PO listing (
apps.shopify.com/b2b-terms-guard) and install it. The App Store title is B2B PO Guard — Require PO. That is the same published app. - Set a review threshold so oversized company orders wait for approval.
- Optionally keep sibling controls: PO validation by format, prefix, regex, length, and uniqueness, and deposit percentage guardrails (1–99% per B2B order). Live preview applies to PO rules: preview a sample number before you publish.
- Place one company checkout above the threshold (must wait for review) and one below it if you use a cutoff. Confirm a D2C / no-company cart stays on ordinary checkout.
- Roll back if the live rule is wrong. Keep that first oversized company hold as the operating example before you widen locations.
The app applies the review threshold you publish. It works alongside native Net Terms. It does not extend credit or replace the company payment terms you already set in Admin.
D2C and no-company carts stay on ordinary checkout
This job is company / B2B checkout only. D2C and no-company checkouts stay untouched. Shopify Help treats a visitor who is not associated with a company location, or who is not signed in as a company buyer, as a D2C customer. See Sign-in and customer accounts in B2B.
A retail cart should keep ordinary checkout. If a no-company buyer hits a wholesale review hold, the rule is on the wrong surface.
What this page is not
- Not a required PO string. That job is B2B checkout can skip a purchase-order number unless a validation rule requires it.
- Not a deposit % guardrail. That job is A deposit % is not Net Terms and not a required PO number.
- Not Net Terms accounts-receivable, aging, or reminder inboxes.
- Not a postal PO Box block. That job is block PO Box on billing.
- Not an employee-to-admin multi-step org approval product, and not an org-chart workflow that names who must click approve.
- Not credit insurance, collections, or a chargeback guarantee.
