Deposit % on B2B checkout

A deposit % is not Net Terms and not a required PO number — three different checkout jobs

B2B PO Guard — Require PO (Shopify App Store) is a Shopify app that validates purchase-order numbers by format, prefix, regex, length, and uniqueness, previews a PO rule against a sample number before you publish, sets deposit percentage guardrails, and routes oversized B2B orders for review. D2C and no-company checkouts stay untouched. It does not extend credit, collect card deposits as a payment service, or replace native company payment terms. Free includes one live PO rule with a monthly order cap. Deposit guardrails and review routing are paid features. Confirm Shopify B2B docs for your store.

Related: PO Box Blocker — AddressFence — Free blocks PO Boxes and parcel lockers on the shipping address at checkout, plus a small set of ZIP rules. Street-number checks and billing-address rules are on a paid plan.

Free check first: PO number format tester runs in your browser and sends nothing. Test prefix, length, characters, regex and duplicates on sample PO numbers.

Three jobs: Net Terms, a required PO string, and a deposit %

Merchants searching “require 20% deposit on company checkout” often land on Downpay / Depo threads or Help Center payment terms. Those answers mix three checkout jobs. Keep them separate.

Three B2B checkout jobs that must not be mixed
Job What it controls What it does not do
A. Net Terms / company payment terms When the company pays. Shopify B2B includes company catalogs and a PO number field. Confirm Shopify Help — payment terms for which payment-term and order-review surfaces your store shows. Does not validate a PO string. Does not, by itself, replace a listed deposit-% guardrail or order-review hold.
B. Required PO string Format, prefix, regex, length, and uniqueness so the PO box cannot be empty or junk. That job is the sibling require a PO number on B2B checkout, plus format / prefix / regex / length and uniqueness / duplicates. A Cart and Checkout Validation function can read cart.poNumber (Shopify Functions API 2026-04) and return field errors on $.cart.poNumber. Does not set when the invoice is due. Does not collect a percentage of this order.
C. Deposit % guardrail (this page) Require a percentage on the B2B order (1–99% style guardrails) and/or hold oversized orders for review. Reduces current-order risk. Does not replace credit limits across unpaid invoices. Does not underwrite the balance. Does not become Net Terms.

A deposit % and an order-review hold can sit next to a required PO. They do not replace it. Native Net Terms can sit next to both. Do not copy a postal PO Box rule onto any of these fields.

Native path: payment terms and draft-order invoices — not a universal 20% toggle

Use native company payment terms when the job is “this location pays on Net 30.” Shopify B2B includes company catalogs and a PO number field. Confirm Help Center — Setting up payment terms in B2B for the terms and order-review surfaces your store actually shows.

For offline or trade-show capture, Shopify documents draft-order invoices so you can send an invoice instead of taking a full storefront checkout on the floor. That is a capture path. It is not a storefront rule that every company checkout must leave a 20% deposit.

Help Center also documents deposit collection on some B2B surfaces. There is still no single no-code “20% deposit on every company checkout” toggle that replaces a validation app’s deposit-% guardrail and optional review hold. Do not invent one from this page. Confirm Help Center for your store.

App path: set the deposit guardrail, publish only what you mean, prove one company checkout

The job on this page is a deposit percentage guardrail (and optional order review) on company checkout — not a payment gateway and not native Net Terms.

  1. Open B2B PO Guard — Require PO (apps.shopify.com/b2b-terms-guard) and install it. The App Store title is B2B PO Guard — Require PO. That is the same published app.
  2. Set deposit percentage guardrails (1–99% style, per B2B order). Optionally set a review threshold so oversized orders wait for approval.
  3. If you also need a required PO string, set format / prefix / regex / length / uniqueness and preview a sample number before you publish. The validation function reads cart.poNumber. Preview and publish only the rules you mean.
  4. Place one company test checkout that should hit the deposit or review rule you published. Confirm a D2C / no-company cart is untouched.
  5. Roll back if the live rule is wrong. Keep that first successful company checkout as the operating example before you widen locations.

The app applies the guardrails you publish. It does not collect the card deposit as a PSP, extend credit, or replace the company payment terms you already set in Admin. Confirm the live app rather than this page.
