Agentic storefronts
No sales from Meta or Muse AI shopping? Check your catalog and direct checkout first
Direct answer. Shopify’s Selling on Meta article says products are made available on Meta through Shopify Catalog, and that Meta’s direct checkout is active by default for eligible stores. So allowing a crawler in robots.txt is not the switch for Meta. When direct checkout is on, the purchase happens on Meta, and Shopify notes that third-party analytics pixels don’t fire there. That is why you may see no storefront visits from Meta even when it is working; look for orders attributed to Meta in your admin instead. Direct checkout is only shown to customers in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Confirm the live Help Center page. This page is not legal advice.
Agentic Catalog by momiji (Install Agentic Catalog by momiji · Write a review) checks AI agent readiness: crawler rules, Product JSON-LD and Open Graph completeness, and missing product data, with fix guidance. It does not turn Shopify Catalog access or Meta direct checkout on or off, and it does not report Meta sales. Use it for the product-data side of this checklist.
How Meta differs from a crawler-based channel
Per Selling on Meta: product discovery is powered by Shopify Catalog, and you don’t need to do anything for products to be discovered by Meta through it. You manage Meta under Sales channels > Agentic. Orders placed on Meta surfaces are attributed to Meta and appear in your admin like any other sales channel. Google Analytics and custom pixels won’t fire in Meta’s direct checkout; only server-to-server pixels (started, completed) do.
Checklist: no sales or visits from Meta or Muse
- Read orders, not sessions. Filter orders by the Meta sales channel. With direct checkout on, missing storefront visits is expected.
- Market. You must sell to customers in the United States, Canada, or Mexico; direct checkout is only displayed to customers there.
- Catalog access. Sales channels > Agentic > turn off Allow Shopify to manage for me > Meta AI and Muse: confirm Shopify Catalog access is on, then Save.
- Direct checkout. In the same screen, confirm Direct checkout is on. If it is off, shoppers are sent to your online store to buy, and those orders will not be direct Meta checkouts.
- Product eligibility. Products must be eligible for Shopify Catalog. Subscriptions, product bundles, customizable products, and B2B-only products aren’t supported in Meta’s direct checkout.
- Policies and terms. Terms of service, Privacy policy, and Return and refund policy must be completed in Settings > Policies, and the Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms accepted.
- Shoppable ads. For shoppable ads, you need the Facebook & Instagram by Meta sales channel with product syncing on in its Product feed section.
- Delivery and sign-in. Local delivery, pickup in store, and pickup points aren’t supported there, and you can’t require sign-in before checkout. Check whether your setup depends on these.
- Muse availability. Shopify writes “Muse when available”. Not every shopper will see it.
- Product data. Keep product data and policies current so Meta matches your store, and put relevant legal disclosures in the first 6,000 characters of product descriptions.
