ChatGPT shopping

ChatGPT shopping uses a structured product feed that merchants share with OpenAI

Direct answer. Get Started says: “Start your ACP integration by sharing a structured product feed with OpenAI. Product feeds give ChatGPT the catalog data it needs to index your products, understand core attributes, and present accurate product information in shopping experiences.” The same page says: “Onboarding product feeds in ChatGPT is currently available to approved partners.” Quotes below are from that page and from the products file-upload spec, both checked 12 October 2026. This page does not describe a ChatGPT screen layout, a ranking method, or a count of merchants.

Agentic Catalog by momiji (Shopify App Store · Write a review): “Audit catalog and product readiness before launch or AI shopping discovery. Review fix guidance, rerun scans, and export CSV evidence.” It does not submit feeds to OpenAI or certify ChatGPT acceptance.

Checklist

What the overview says the feed is for

Under “Start with product feeds when you want to,” the page lists:

Integration path

The page says: “Use this sequence to stand up your integration with ACP.” The steps it names:

  1. Decide which integration method to use: file upload or API. “It is generally recommended to provide the entire feed once a day via file upload, and then send updates throughout the day via the API.” “If your feed is small, you can provide both the entire feed and regular updates via the API.” “Promotions data can only be provided via the API.”
  2. Review the specs for the chosen integration method, and confirm the required fields, canonical field names, and validation rules.
  3. Validate required fields for every record.
  4. Upload feed data through the chosen integration method.
  5. Keep the feed current. “For file upload, overwrite the same file or shard set with your latest snapshot on a regular cadence.” “For the API, upsert products through the API.”

Nine required fields

The products spec: “Submit one row per purchasable item or variant. Include the nine required fields in Basic product data, then add the optional data that describes your products.” The table below copies the requirement and the description. The example column is omitted. The longer field notes are on OpenAI product feed spec.

Basic product data, required rows, from the OpenAI products file-upload spec
Field Requirement Description, as written
item_id Required Stable ID, unique per item or variant within your feed. Never reuse it for a different item. See identity rules.
title Required Product name, including the selected variant when relevant.
description Required Factual product description for this item.
url Required Product detail page for the item, with the variant selected when possible. Keep it stable.
brand Required Product brand as shown on the product page.
seller_name Required Name of the seller supplying this offer. For marketplace offers, see merchant information.
image_url Required Main product image, showing this variant. Use a direct image URL, such as a JPEG or PNG.
availability Required in_stock, out_of_stock, pre_order, backorder, or unknown. Omitted, empty, or unrecognized values reject the row. Use unknown explicitly when stock status is unavailable.
price Required Regular item price in major currency units. See prices.

A later section of the same spec, “Google-compatible product data feeds,” says: “Use this format only after OpenAI confirms it for your registered feed.” In that section, “availability must be in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder, or backorder. Use preorder, not the OpenAI spelling pre_order; unknown is not accepted.” That spelling applies to the Google-compatible path, not to the Basic product data cell above.

Prohibited products

Get Started, under Prohibited products policy: “To keep ChatGPT a safe place for everyone, we only allow products and services that are legal, safe, and appropriate for a general audience. Prohibited products include, but are not limited to, those that involve adult content, age-restricted products (for example, alcohol, nicotine, gambling), harmful or dangerous materials, weapons, prescription-only medications, unlicensed financial products, legally restricted goods, illegal activities, or deceptive practices.”

Not a ranking or inclusion claim. Confirm the live OpenAI pages before you treat a field or an availability value as current. The app audits catalog and product readiness, reviews fix guidance, reruns scans, and exports CSV evidence. It does not submit feeds to OpenAI or certify ChatGPT acceptance.
