Shopify Catalog
Shop AI mixed up a product and a bundle — fix the product data it reads
Direct answer. You can’t edit or switch off the wording an AI channel writes. Shopify’s Shopify Catalog article says Catalog supplies product data, but each channel controls the final ranking, wording, and shopping experience, and you can’t opt out of Shopify Catalog itself. What you control is the data it reads: titles, descriptions, images, categories, variants, options, prices, and inventory. When a summary blends a core product with a bundle, make each listing say plainly what is and isn’t included, and make sure bundle copy lives only on the bundle. This page is not legal advice.
A merchant on r/shopify (October 2026) wrote that Shop AI “blended summaries from one of my core products and a bundle”, telling customers in the Highlights that an accessory was included for free. They said Shopify support acknowledged the error but there was “no way to force a fix, modify the summary, or turn off the AI”. The steps below are limited to what Shopify’s Help Center documents.
What Shopify says you do and don’t control
- The wording is the channel’s. Shopify Catalog provides titles, descriptions, images, pricing, options, and availability; each AI channel decides how to word and display them (Shopify Catalog).
- Shop is not an agentic storefront toggle. You can stop individual agentic storefronts from accessing your products through Catalog, but that doesn’t remove products from Shopify Catalog, and they stay available for uses such as storefront search and Shop.
- Shop search reads your listing. Shop’s customer experience article says Shop search uses your product titles, descriptions, images, and pricing, and recommends accurate titles and tags, detailed descriptions, and high-quality images.
- Accurate data is the lever Shopify names. Shopify asks for clear, complete, up-to-date product information. It also says this doesn’t guarantee placement, ranking, or exact wording in AI results.
Checklist: a summary mixed up a product and a bundle
- Say what is in the box, on both listings. On the core product, state what it includes and that the accessory is sold separately or in the bundle. On the bundle, list each component by name.
- Keep bundle copy off the single product. Remove sentences like “comes with” or “includes” from the core product unless they are true for that product on its own. Check the SEO description and image alt text too, not only the visible description.
- Give the bundle its own clear title. A title that names the bundle and its components is harder to confuse with the single item.
- Use distinct images. If the core product’s images show the accessory, a reader can’t tell what ships. Show the accessory only where it is included.
- Check variants and options. Shopify Catalog reads options and variants. If an option or variant name suggests an included extra, rename it.
- Check custom fields. If titles, descriptions, or categories live in metafields, metaobjects, or tag prefixes, Shopify’s Catalog and product discovery article says Shopify Catalog Mapping lets you choose which sources Catalog reads.
- Know the bundle limits. Shopify’s bundle considerations list that bundles can’t contain other bundles and aren’t compatible with purchase options such as subscriptions and pre-orders. A product set up outside those rules may not behave like a bundle.
- Keep a record. Screenshot the wrong summary with the date, and note what you changed and when. Tell Shopify Support what the summary said and which listing it came from.
Where Agentic Catalog by momiji fits
Agentic Catalog by momiji (Agentic Catalog by momiji on the Shopify App Store · Write a review) checks data readiness for AI agents: crawler rules, Product JSON-LD and Open Graph completeness, and missing product data, with fix guidance. It does not edit, correct, or turn off Shop AI summaries, and it does not control what any AI channel writes.
What this page is not
- Not legal advice on advertising claims or refunds.
- Not a promise that a summary will change after you edit product data.
- Not a guide to turning channels off. See Shopify agentic storefronts.
