EmpCo spare parts and repairability

EmpCo on the product page: show the repairability score when it exists — otherwise producer-supplied spare-parts facts, not invented copy

RepairProof EU (Shopify App Store) is a Shopify app that verifies purchases before accepting repair requests, records diagnosis and quote details, issues revision-linked repair information forms, tracks repair and return status, and retains a redacted audit trail. Product service profiles may hold indicative repair information, spare-parts notes, and support periods. The app organizes merchant-supplied records. It does not determine legal compliance, guarantee repair outcomes, certify a score, scrape producer sites, or replace counsel.

Free check first: Green claim wording self-check runs in your browser and sends nothing. Paste product copy and see which environmental wording to review.

Job: put pre-purchase repairability / spare-parts facts on the product page from 27 September 2026. This is the EmpCo point-of-sale information job — not the generic green-claims ban and not the 2024/1799 repair-desk workflow.

What EmpCo changes on 27 September 2026 — besides eco-wording

Directive (EU) 2024/825 (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition) amends the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and the Consumer Rights Directive. Article 4(1): Member States had to adopt measures by 27 March 2026 and apply them from 27 September 2026. EmpCo is not only “ban eco-friendly wording.” Recital 25: consumers should get pre-contractual information about durability, reparability, and (for goods with digital elements) update availability. This page is that PDP job. Confirm the live text, not this paraphrase. Not legal advice.

Two-step display logic on the offer

Directive 2024/825 Art. 2 inserts the same two-step into Directive 2011/83/EU. For a Shopify distance sale, the live pair is Art. 6(1) points (u) and (v). Other contracts use Art. 5(1) points (i) and (j). Recitals 34–36 explain the same order. Confirm those points on the live directive; this page is a paraphrase.

  1. If a Union-harmonised reparability score applies to the product group and to that SKU, show that score clearly before the consumer is bound. Recital 34: the score is the one provided by the producer and established at Union level. Art. 2 of 2024/825 defines “reparability score” as a score based on harmonised requirements established at Union level. A national index (France’s repairability index is an example, not a Union score) is not that score unless Union law makes it so.
  2. If no such score applies, and the producer makes the information available to the trader, show spare-parts availability, estimated cost and ordering procedure, repair/maintenance instructions, and any repair restrictions — the facts the producer supplied, not copy the shop invented. Recital 35 lists those items. Recital 36: the trader should convey information the producer provided or otherwise intended to make readily available before the contract (on the product, packaging, or tags the consumer would normally consult). The trader is not required to actively seek that information from the producer, for example by searching product-specific websites.

Do not pretend the shop researched what the producer never supplied. Confirm Art. 4, recitals 34–36, and the inserted Consumer Rights Directive points on EUR-Lex plus your Member State’s measures.

Nearby laws — different jobs

Green claims ban. EmpCo also adds Annex I wording bans (generic “eco-friendly” / “green” claims and related points). That is product-copy policing, not spare-parts display. Use EU generic environmental claims ban.

Right to repair workflow. Directive (EU) 2024/1799 is the after-sales repair-request / form / record regime (from 31 July 2026). It is not the EmpCo PDP information duty. Use EU right-to-repair proof records.

CRA support-period display. Connected products with digital elements have a separate support-period duty under the Cyber Resilience Act. That is not EmpCo spare-parts copy. Use CRA duty records — support period on the product page.

Native Shopify path — metafields, then render only when filled

Shopify Admin has no “EmpCo” toggle. Store the score or the producer-supplied spare-parts block in product metafields (or a metaobject if several SKUs share one producer pack). Then, on the product template, add a theme Text, Collapsible, or Custom Liquid block near the price / Add to cart. Render the block only when the field is populated. Empty metafields should stay off the page so you do not invent facts the producer never sent.

  1. Settings → Custom data → Products → add definitions for the score (if one applies) and for spare-parts availability, estimated cost / ordering, instructions, and restrictions.
  2. Fill those fields only from producer-supplied material you already have — the product, packaging, tags, or what the producer gave you. Do not scrape the producer’s site to invent a missing block.
  3. Online Store → Themes → Customize → Product template → add Text / Collapsible / Custom Liquid near price or Add to cart, and connect the metafield (or metaobject) as a dynamic source.
  4. Open the live product page. Confirm the score or the spare-parts facts appear before purchase when present, and that empty products show nothing.

App path — service profiles hold notes you already have

After the merchant has producer-supplied facts, RepairProof EU product service profiles can hold indicative repair information, spare-parts notes, and support periods for the storefront path the merchant configures. The app does not calculate an EU reparability score, invent missing producer data, scrape producer websites, certify a score, or decide legal duties. It organizes merchant-supplied records.

  1. Collect the Union-harmonised score (if one applies to the SKU) or the spare-parts facts the producer made available.
  2. Open the RepairProof EU listing (apps.shopify.com/repairproof-eu) and install it on the store that sells to EU consumers.
  3. Put those producer-supplied notes on the product service profile. Do not type a score the producer never issued.
  4. Confirm the live product page (or the storefront path you configured) shows that block before purchase.

The listing also covers the after-sales repair-request workflow — purchase verification, diagnosis/quote, revision-linked forms, status tracking, and a redacted audit trail. That workflow is the right-to-repair proof job, not this EmpCo PDP block.
