EU FIC food allergen labelling
Food allergen labelling has to appear before purchase, not only on delivery
Job: show EU FIC allergen information on the product page before checkout — the Annex II list, including any allergen the ingredient text mentions but the declared list omits.
A sticker on the parcel is too late for distance selling. Nutrition and origin sit in the same pre-purchase set. Not legal advice — confirm Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
Detect Annex II allergens from ingredient text, fix mismatches, then confirm the live PDP before purchase.
Confirm current plans on the App Store listing before you install.
Install, attach allergen info, confirm the storefront
The paid path is allergen / food information on the storefront product, not a kitchen spreadsheet.
- Install EU Food Info Guard from the App Store.
- Attach allergen (and related food info) for the first product this guide covers.
- Confirm the live product page shows what buyers need before purchase.
- Keep the in-app record, then repeat for the next SKU.
The app helps display food information you configure. It does not decide labeling law for your market. This page is not legal advice.
Install EU Food Info Guard → attach allergen info → confirm storefront

Short walkthrough of the app flow. Then follow the start path below.
The gap is often ingredient text vs the declared allergen list
| Surface | Allergen consequence |
|---|---|
| Product page (distance selling) | Mandatory particulars, including Annex II allergens, before purchase |
| Ingredient text names an allergen the declared list omits | Detection flag — fix before leaving the PDP live |
| Delivery note / parcel only | Too late for the before-purchase duty |
| Nutrition / origin | Same pre-purchase set (honey origin rules changed 14 June 2026 — neighbouring field) |
Do not mix with CLP hazard pictograms or textile fibre names — different label jobs.
Suggested path:
- Install EU Food Info Guard.
- Paste or import ingredient text; detect the 14 Annex II allergens; fix omissions.
- Keep nutrition and origin with the pre-purchase block; separate delivery-only notes.
- Sync the theme block via app-owned metafield; confirm shoppers see allergens before buy.
The app organizes merchant data. It does not determine legal compliance or calculate recipes.
Start path: allergens on the product page, not the parcel
- Open the EU Food Info Guard listing (
apps.shopify.com/fic-food-info-guard) and install it on the store that distance-sells food. - Paste or import ingredient text and detect the 14 Annex II allergens. Fix any allergen the ingredients mention but the declared list omits.
- Keep nutrition and origin with the pre-purchase block. Separate delivery-only notes from those facts.
- Sync the theme block via the app-owned metafield (no template edits). Open a live product page and confirm shoppers see the allergens before they buy.

Pre-purchase facts vs delivery-only notes
| Surface | Allergen consequence |
|---|---|
| Product page (distance selling) | Mandatory particulars, including Annex II allergens, before purchase |
| Nutrition / origin | Same pre-purchase set; honey origin rules changed 14 June 2026 |
| Delivery note / parcel label only | Too late for the before-purchase duty |
| Ingredient text vs declared list | Flag when the text names an allergen the declared list omits |
Annex II groups (paraphrase; use the live annex for exceptions):
cereals containing gluten
crustaceans, eggs, fish
peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts
celery, mustard, sesame
sulphur dioxide / sulphites (threshold applies)
lupin, molluscs
+ products thereof
What this page is not
- Not legal advice, a lab test, a recipe calculator, or an official label printer.
- Not CLP/GHS hazard pictograms. That job is hazard display on the product page.
- Not EU textile fibre names. That path is Annex I composition.
- Not a California Prop 65 warning. That job is 2028 product-page short-form warnings.
- Not CRA product duty / Article 14 incident records. That path is Cyber Resilience Act duty files.
Does EU FIC require allergen labelling before purchase in distance selling?
Mandatory food information — including substances or products causing allergies or intolerances in Annex II — has to be available before the purchase is concluded for distance selling, and still appear at delivery. Nutrition and origin sit in the same pre-purchase set. This page is not legal advice. Confirm Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, especially Articles 9 and 14, not this paraphrase.
What are the 14 Annex II allergens?
Annex II lists cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide and sulphites above the stated threshold, lupin, and molluscs, plus products thereof, with the exceptions written in that annex. Use the live annex, not a nickname list from this page.
What if ingredient text mentions an allergen the declared list omits?
That mismatch is the detection job: flag the allergen the ingredients mention but the declared list does not. Fix the declared list (or the ingredient text) before you leave the product page live. Detection is a hint from text, not a lab assay.
Can I put allergens only in a delivery note or on the parcel?
No for the pre-purchase duty. Delivery-only notes are a different surface. Distance selling still has to show the mandatory particulars before checkout. Keep delivery notes apart from the product-page facts.
Did honey origin rules change in 2026?
Honey origin labelling rules changed 14 June 2026. Origin remains a pre-purchase fact alongside allergens and nutrition when it is required. This page’s main job is allergen labelling; origin is the neighbouring field on the same product page. Confirm the live honey-origin text, not this page.
Does an app make the product page FIC compliant?
No. The app organizes merchant data, detects Annex II names from ingredient text, and can sync a theme block. It does not determine legal compliance, calculate recipes, or print official labels. Not legal advice.
Where do I put FIC allergen info on the product page?
Detect the 14 Annex II allergens from ingredient text, separate pre-purchase facts from delivery-only notes, and sync a storefront theme block via an app-owned metafield. EU Food Info Guard is the App Store listing this site already uses for that job. Open the listing, install, then confirm the live product page.
